I have been looking around for a new headunit for my car and not been able to find one that does what I need. Having Raspberry Pi’s and a Prusa i3 printer sitting around, I thought it should try building one.

For this I am using  Raspberry pi2 (yeh, old hat now) and a 7″ Waveshare touchscreen with 1024×600 resolution.

After 2 days of updates I have just found out that my distro is out of date!

Oh well time to upgrade.

Well, after 4 failed attempts to clone the old OSX HDD to the new 1TB seagate SSHD I finally got it to work using OSX‘s built in Disk Utility.

In the end user theratter gave me the answer

Clone El Capitan to a New Disk

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command–R keys until the Apple logo and progress bar appear.

  2. When the Utility Menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button.

  3. When Disk Utility loads select the disk (usually, the out-dented entry) from the side list.

  4. Click on the Partition tab in Disk Utility‘s main window. A panel will drop down.

  5. Set the partition scheme to GUID.

  6. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)

  7. Click on the Apply button, then click on the Done button when it activates.

  8. Select the new Seagate drive then select Restore from the Disk Utility’s Edit menu.

  9. From the dropdown menu select the volume you want to clone.

  10. Click on the Apply button to start the process.

After some struggle to remove the old drive the new drive works and after resetting the PRAM, the MackBooPro now boots super fast.

Thank you forum member theratter

So for 3 nights I have attempted to clone my old 512 GB hd to a new 1TB Seagate SSHD hybrid drive and for 3 night I have failed. I keep finding that it randomly disconnects with the “Drive incorrectly removed” message from OSX.

I have deactivated all the autolog out/shutdown setting but still getting this issue and its driving me crazy.

Spring is officially here (well going by the Anime calendar)!

How can I say this?
Several of the “Winter” Animes have come to an end ready for the next crop, but which ones ended?
This is a list of the ones that I have been watching that ended (in no particular order)

  • Schwarzesmarken
  • Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (has this actually finished?
  • Dimension W
  • Mobile Suit Iron Blodded Orphans
  • Durarara (after 3 seasons)
  • God Eater (that got dragged out)
  • Luck and Logic
  • Bubuki Buranki
  • Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri ( I hope this is just a season)
  • Heavy Object
  • Divine Gate
  • Active Raid

UPDATE 02-APRIL-2016: The following have now also finished.

  • Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation
  • Norn 9 + Norn.
  • Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm

  • Musaigen no Phantom World

There are some still ongoing, but the new season has some good and bad surprises.

Ghost in the Shell has a new VR Video coming out that makes use of the current gen VR apps.

Mobile Suit UC (unicorn) should have the next episode out soon (and dare I guess the next thunderbolt episode should not be to far behind)

A second series of Asterisk wars (Gakusen Toshi Asterisk)

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (Koutetsujou no Kabaneri) a Steampunk Style anime

Along with  more anime’s that I am yet to pick through.

Will they be any good, it is to early to tell.

Motoko Kusanagi cameo.

Look who made a cameo in an anime, A younger version of Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell

Years ago, a magazine came out with parts to build a nitro racer RC car. After all these years I finally got mine running. Still adjusting it to run properly but at least got the thing runing around the local park, and, unlike the electric seburo (also given on a mag) this thing runs on grass!

Enjoy a little video of it’s first startup since being assembled and dumped in the loft.

Black Rock Shooter sticker.

New car and new mods.

I couldn’t find a supply of these so had to commission a limited run.

The printer wasn’t happy but I love it and it passes the standoff test.

Why this game?
Since I first discovered BRS I have loved it have and have been playing the US version of the game on/off for 6 months. (the bike level sucks)

I do have the Japanese import on PSP classic (4001) but found it to fast for me to read and understand.

My 2011 IX35 didn’t have the reverse camera or dvd head unit. These things are wonderful when there are small cars around. Because I was missing the dvd navigator head unit needed for the cameras display I needed another option.

I ordered this kit for ebay seller Bostrala (recomended by a few Hyundai owners) Reverse camera and monitor

This kit is the easiest way to install a reverse camera. consisting of a camera, transmitter, receiver and monitor for only £32, this is cheep.

Once the kit arrived I set about attacking my car, this turned out to be a simple affair. All I needed for this was

  • Screwdriver (flathead)
  • Crimp tool,
  • Draw Tape
  • Side cutters
  • Knife
  • Insulation Tape,
  • Red crimp ferrels

All I did was pop the tail gate trim pannel, and popped out the existing number plate lights (both sides). I then removed the fitting from the bulb mount and pushed the cable through to the second light before pushing the new module into the slot.

Pull out the rubber gland and cut a slot. push the cameras wiring through the gland and wrap in tape. replace gland and second numberplate light. Now find somewhere to secure the transmitter and wrap in tape. Connect the transmitter and camera together and run the power lead over to the tailgates lights. On the UK model IX35 the drivers side rear/reverse light has 3 wires (Black, yellow and red) the red goes to the reverse light and the yellow to the rear light. Cut and crimp the transmitter to the black and red, tape up the excess wire and check the wiring works by popping the car into reverse (someone will need to look at the transmitter to see if the blue led lights up. Once that works it time for the receiver and monitor. I am intending to get the dvd navigator headunit at some point so only made a temp adapter for the aux socket (ciggy lighter for the smokers)I connected the monitor and transmitter leads together, ran them down between the Headunit and passenger air vent.

Once everything was connected together and working (YAY!) i replaced the tailgate trim and with some effort (you need to push down the trim while pushing it towards the wind screen) put centre console top cover back.

ESP8266 -12 NOT beginner friendly

I brought this model because I wanted more GPIO’s and couldn’t find the 12a or 13 version. Man I wish I had ordered the -1 model first as this model is a pain in the ass to get working.
Using the provided wiring diagram and the arduino ide, I get the sync warnings and then the ide freezes during the upload stage (uploading stays in the progress bar!)

Have ordered a -1 model and will try playing with that before going back to the -12.

Well that’s the last straw, the hotend just caught on fire!
Fucking piece of junk!
