OK I’ve had time to play with the vob/dvd system using Full Metal Panic and I have to say I’m happy with it so far.
Using DVD Shrink to remove the menus and languages etc I created a striped down .vob and copied to the drive. Initially I had no sound but after punching the “Audio” button I got audio to appear under the audio selection “82″ And all working (striped fill comes in at 1.3 ish gig).
Next I copied all the files of the disk to the hd (extracted with DVDDCSS) and using the “DVDplay” option I played the files as a dvd and all worked without messing around with audio tracks.
Haven’t got around to xvid yet (only got a 10 gig hd in the drive) but will try that out later.
BTW All non spam comments will be put up.

Well Maplins are selling these @ £39.99 Maplins Noontech Gigaview A50FW
First thoughts are “ouu cheep media enclosure”, I snapped it up and headed for home.
Well anyway I popped open my laptop (Ubuntu 7.10) opened up my video folder and started dropping vids on to my MSDP and XD card.
I slapped them in the enclosure (1 @ a time) and tryed to play them,
hmn these psp formatted rips didn’t work,
Downloaded avi’s didn’t work
the only thing that worked was a .mov file.
Thinking “well that’s crap” I opened up DVD::RIP and transcoded a copy of FMP EPS1 to and mpg.
copied to xd card – Didn’t work, WTF?
copied to MSDP – worked but stuttered.
Copied to some 10.8 gig hd (9.8 formatted in fat 32)
Well that works ok, that will do for me next up mp3’s
Putting the cards back where they came from I slapped some tunes from a scooter album and stated playing them.
The unit has a built in equalizer type jobbie but it was very slow keeping up with the music.
Being curious about its working I pulled out the main board and starting looking at the chips.
The biggest chip I assume Is the main driver chip and has Power media V1.0 written on it.
After a bit of google I find absolutely nothing on the technical specs of this unit, So no chance of hacking it.
The old “you get what you pay for” speaks true for this unit,
Cheep aluminium case, crap gui and slow read/write on internal hd’s.
If this could be hacked I’m sure the bugs could be fixed how ever google does show 2 different version of this unit, one with a square button, one with a round button.
Ill play with this some more and test out the vob playback and the post some more comments.
Talk Talk are crooks.

Fist of I don’t care what TT’s legal twat’s say, TalkTalk are incompetent crooks.
From December 2007 onwards some arrogant twat was calling up mum almost everyday bullying her to change the broad band from BT to Talktalk. I happened to be there one day and answered the call to some rude women. Cutting the call very short, She asked me if mum wanted to change and I said I would need to check out the paper work first to witch she responeded with
“Why do you want to do that? I told you she will save money” in a rather rude manor.
After another short conversation I told her to fuck off with her bad attude and hung up on her( I do hope they recorded that).
After checking the paperwork we would indeed save money so went ahead and ordered it. 2 days later we lost the phone line,
“WTF” I said when I got home to find no broadband, phone or line.
Called up talk talk ( and after being sent around the houses because there several different company’s)and they said there was a problem with the broadband.
I asked when the phone line would be sorted and well they didn’t know. After a week of only using a mobile for contact I called again and they were still having issues so I ordered them to cancal the change over and we would go elseware.
Being a sky user we chose skybroad band using there own hardware (well @ £10 PCM for the max package it was better then BT broad band )and back to bt for line and calls.
Well all was ok for a month then I came home to find the broadband not working,”WTF” I’m again thinking. Called up sky and BT and was told sky had cancelled the broadband because bt had been ordered to cancel the line rental, huh why would I do that when I have a perfectly working system now?
Pluging in the tt modem I figured had been sent by mistake I find I’m now on Talk talk.
For Fuck sake We had cancelled then and now they have taken to stealing customers and forcing them to use there crap service.
Well Were now stuck on this shit service and not lickly to change providers anytime soon.
I’n closing : Nobody in there right mind should use Talktalk and tell them to fuck off as soon as they call up.
